    The Permian Basin Petroleum Museum, 1500 I-20, Midland, has scheduled Building Bots Robotics & Engineering Funlab for the fall line up for students in grades K-6. Registration opens to Petroleum Museum Members on Aug. 1 and to non-members on Aug. 5. Kindergarten to second grade: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 3, Oct. 1, and Nov. 5. Third grade to sixth grade: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesdays, Sept. 17, Oct. 15, and Nov. 19. There will be different themes for each session. The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) educational programming will use equipment such as LEGO Robotics (WeDo 2.0 and Mindstorm EV3s), Ozobots, Osmos, Spheros, and NEW KUBO to help get kids get excited about learning. Pre-registration is required. Cost is $25 per session for Petroleum Museum members and $30 per session for non-members. Call 683-4403 or email education@petroleummuseum.org.     Swan Lake, which has mesmerized audiences for over a century, is based on a German fairy tale. Tchaikovsky’s score tells the tragic love story of Prince Siegfried and Swan Princess, Odette, who is cursed to be a swan by day but a young woman at night. The Russian Ballet Theatre’s new production will captivate audiences with time-honored Russian traditions while adding new choreography, hand painted sets, radiant hand sewn costumes, artistic hair designs and special effects makeup.

    The Senate Select Committee on Mass Violence Prevention & Community Safety has scheduled a public meeting from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 17 at Odessa College, Deaderick Hall, 201 W. University Blvd. Learn firsthand, the personal, family, and community impact of mass shootings in Texas by hearing from victims of mass violence in Dallas, Santa Fe, Sutherland Springs, El Paso, and Odessa/Midland. Community members wishing to testify will be given an opportunity to be heard. Limit is 3 minutes per person. Register when you first arrive if you want to speak. Those wishing to submit written testimony, submit 20 copies with your name on each copy to the committee during the hearing. The committee will keep public testimony open until at least 7 p.m. to ensure all persons have an opportunity to testify after normal business hours. Each member of the public wishing to testify will be given an opportunity to be heard. Persons with disabilities who plan to attend and who may need assistance, such as a sign language interpreter or personal assistive listening devices, are requested to contactt the Senate Coordinator at 512-463-0070, 72 hours prior to the meeting so appropriate arrangements can be made.
