Two killed in Crane County wreck

Two people died in a Monday morning wreck on FM 1233 in Crane County, according to a release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The wreck happened at about 7:23 a.m. Monday about 17 miles south of Monahans, the release stated.

The two people who died — 37-year-old Melinda Gale Varner of Gladewater and 31-year-old Waylon Dan Varner of Tahoka — were headed east on the farm to market road in a 2001 Ford F-350 when their truck veered into the westbound lane and collided with a tractor trailer driven by a 57-year-old Bullard man, the DPS reported.

The DPS identified Waylon Varner as the driver of the pickup and reported it was unclear whether he and Melinda Varner were wearing seatbelts. Both were pronounced dead at the scene at 9:21 a.m.
